We are delighted to announce the opening of our new social enterprise ‘Café Down the Lane’!
When? The Café is open for business each Wednesday from 12 pm to 3.30pm.
What? Café Down the Lane offers a range of affordable scrumptious homemade snacks, delicious drinks and not forgetting our famous signature scones, freshly made in the morning by our apprentices! Prices have been set to encourage people with a limited income to visit regularly. There will also be a monthly programme of guest entertainers and local craft. For information about guest musicians, click here.
Where? The Café is situated on the fully accessible Mencap site.
Why? The aim of the Café is to support local people with learning disabilities gain real employment and training skills and the apprentices are keen to serve customers and demonstrate these skills.
Who? The Café is for everyone! The Café offers excellent value for money and has a particular focus on encouraging vulnerable people with their carers/support workers to use this as a ‘meeting point’ where they are able to meet up regularly with others, reducing their isolation and loneliness. Local groups wishing to reserve a room for meetings whilst enjoying the benefits of the café are welcome, e.g. a breakfast meeting or regular event.
Our apprentices look forward to serving you and we welcome you sharing this with your colleagues, friends and family.
