About Café Down The Lane and Tea Room Down The Lane
We are delighted to announce the opening of our social enterprise ‘Café Down the Lane’, and our newest addition, ‘Tea Room Down The Lane!’
When? The Café is open for business each Wednesday from 12 pm to 3.30pm. The Tea Room is open from 1.30pm-3.30pm each Monday.
What? Cafe Down the Lane offers a range of affordable scrumptious homemade snacks, delicious drinks and not forgetting our famous signature scones, freshly made in the morning by our apprentices! Prices have been set to encourage people with a limited income to visit regularly.
The Tea Room places a focus on more traditional afternoon tea, with apprentices from our HandyCrafts Day Service serving refreshing hot or cold drinks and tantalising cakes to customers looking for a little sophistication on a Monday afternoon!
Where? Both the Café and the Tea Room are situated on the fully accessible Mencap site.
Why? The aim of the Café and Tea Room is to support local people with learning disabilities gain real employment and training skills and the apprentices are keen to serve customers and demonstrate these skills.
Who? The Café and Tea Room is for everyone! They offer excellent value for money and has a particular focus on encouraging vulnerable people with their carers/support workers to use this as a ‘meeting point’ where they are able to meet up regularly with others, reducing their isolation and loneliness. Local groups wishing to reserve a room for meetings whilst enjoying the benefits of the café space are welcome, e.g. a breakfast meeting or regular event.
Our apprentices look forward to serving you and we welcome you sharing this with your colleagues, friends and family.
