On 13 March the Children and Families Act (2014) received Royal Assent. It will reform the systems for adoption, looked after children, family justice and special educational needs.
‘In My Shoes’ is a video commissioned by Southampton Mencap and produced by Solent Creatives to illustrate life from a parental perspective. A number of local parents speak about what life has been like for them in bringing up their child with special educational needs or disabilities. You can watch this short film on YouTube here.
‘In My Shoes’ will be used at training sessions to highlight their feelings and concerns and what it’s like to ‘walk in their shoes’ to professionals so that improvements can be implemented in Southampton in line with the Children & Families Bill which is all about the Government’s commitment to improve services for vulnerable children and young people and better support their families.
If you are a parent or carer of a child with special educational needs or disabilities aged 0-25 we would love to hear from you so please leave your comments.
